Salvation lost...
Genre: doom metal
This release is a three-track demo from local Odensean underground doom metal act, Morfeus - and their only release from their doom metal period.
The sound is, of course, quite raw and unpolished, this being a demo tape recorded in 1992. Musically, the band are inspired by the likes of Paradise Lost and My Dying Bride, and, while simpler than both, Morfeus' style has the same oppressive atmosphere on the three tracks on this demo. In keeping with doom metal tradition, the music is slow and heavy. They make use of some atmospheric background keyboards on all tracks without overusing it, which I like. Also, the guitar solos are mostly blues based, which, as it happens, actually suits the music quite well.
One of the downsides to this release are the sort-of-growled vocals, which sound too much like a Danish guy shouting in English for my taste.
This is a rarity, and probably impossible to come by, if you didn't buys it from the bands back in the day. It is possible that you can buy it on e-bay though. It certainly is a treat for doom loving demo-collectors.
