UMUR
"Doom of the Occult" is the 2nd full-length studio album by German death metal act Necros Christos. The album was released through Van Records/Sepulchral Voice in March 2011.
The music on the album is old school doomy death metal. The vocals are growling and at no point do that change during the playing time. The album features as many as 23 tracks and a total playing time of 73:04 minutes, but about half of the tracks are short interludes between the "regular" death metal tracks. I think that concept works pretty well. Otherwise the album would probably have been a slightly more monotone listen. The musicianship is solid and the sound production organic and raw, which suits the music well, so on those fronts there are nothing to complain about. The "regular" death metal tracks on "Doom of the Occult" do become a bit one-dimensional though as Necros Christos seem so determined to sound "old school" that they rarely play anything surprising or out of the ordinary, but fans of the genre will probably love it.
In the end "Doom of the Occult" does come off professional and well played, and while I could have wished for more variation, Necros Christos are one of those acts that succeed in creating the right occult atmosphere to pull off playing the style with conviction and a 3.5 star (70%) rating is deserved.
