We've got some heavy rock here...
Genre: heavy metal
American supergroup, The Damned Things, which comprise members from Anthrax, Fall Out Boy and As I Lay Dying, have finally made their first release - the single "We've Got a Situation Here", which has been publically available for months now in a rough mix version on the band's Myspace.
Now, they've released it in the final mix (well, it'll be out in November, but the title track is available on Myspace), and things certainly look (well, sound) promising. The single contains two songs, and, having heard the band live, I think that their upcoming album "Ironiclast" is going to be really good.
"We've Got A Situation Here" draws extensively on 70s heavy metal, containing guitar harmonies and 70s hard rock style riffage combined with 90s-style alt. metal riffage. The chorus consists of an extremely catchy hookline accompanied by simple but effective guitar riffage. Breaking with the uptempo main body of the song, the bridge is groovy and heavy, which works quite well.
The other track on the single is "Ironiclast", which is available on Myspace in a tough mix version. It's simpler and draws more on noise rock and not as impressive as "We've Got A Situation Here".
Given that this single is available on the band's Myspace site, go and check it out and see if you like it.
