THE DAMNED THINGS picture
The Damned Things are an American supergroup consisting of members from thrash and alternative metal legends Anthrax (Scott Ian and Rob Caggiano), metalcore act Everytime I Die (Keith Buckley and Josh Newton [touring bassist]), and emo pop-rock act Fall Out Boy (Joe Trohman and Andy Hurley). Their style draws heavily on 70s and 80s hard rock and heavy metal, blending in elements from 90s and 00s alternative rock and metal as well.

Despite not having released anything apart from two rough mix tracks on their Myspace page, the band were booked to play several shows in Europe and the States at rock festivals like Download and Copenhell.

They released "We've Got a Situation Here" as a single on October 5th, 2010, and their debut album, "Ironiclast", is scheduled to be out on December 14th, 2010.

We've got some heavy rock here...

Genre: heavy metal

American supergroup, The Damned Things, which comprise members from Anthrax, Fall Out Boy and As I Lay Dying, have finally made their first release - the single "We've Got a Situation Here", which has been publically available for months now in a rough mix version on the band's Myspace.

Now, they've released it in the final mix (well, it'll be out in November, but the title track is available on Myspace), and things certainly look (well, sound) promising. The single contains two songs, and, having heard the band live, I think that their upcoming album "Ironiclast" is going to be really good.

"We've Got A Situation Here" draws extensively on 70s heavy metal, containing guitar harmonies and 70s hard rock style riffage combined with 90s-style alt. metal riffage. The chorus consists of an extremely catchy hookline accompanied by simple but effective guitar riffage. Breaking with the uptempo main body of the song, the bridge is groovy and heavy, which works quite well.

The other track on the single is "Ironiclast", which is available on Myspace in a tough mix version. It's simpler and draws more on noise rock and not as impressive as "We've Got A Situation Here".

Given that this single is available on the band's Myspace site, go and check it out and see if you like it.
