Now this is what I call fun (although to be honest the rest of my family would call it noise). Imagine old school death metal mixed with grindcore and played at maximum volume then you may just get an idea of what this album is all about. I’m going to have to keep an eye out for these guys as they may just come over to NZ for some gigs as they’re in the neighbourhood. I mean, I enjoyed this so much I can even overlook the fact that they’re Australian! These guys have obviously been paying attention to classic Morbid Angel and Cannibal Corpse, taken some influences from the Berzerker and then finished it off with a strong dollop of Napalm Death. I mean, what’s here not to like? This is intense in your face metal from the start to the end, and although the break beats do get a little too much here and there I’m willing to forgive them for that.
There is more melody than some of the major grindcore band such as Agoraphobic Nosebleed, but they certainly don’t dial down the aggression and I hate to think how sore CJ McMahon’s throat was at the end of this recording. 10 songs at just under 37 minutes, this could well be viewed in years to come as a classic of the genre. If you want brutal metal then it just doesn’t get any heavier or harder than this. www.nuclearblast.de
