This is a great, much lighter metal album. Though it is still heavy, the album experiments with higher pitch, delicate singing amongst the scream-like vocals. This choice of having these light sing-song vocals works very well with the theme the album goes for: High school love story, and self-doubt
The lyrics commonly go over this theme, some songs more than others, and overall the album fits the theme of old high school love and nostalgia. The best example of this is the last song on the album.
Individual track notes.* Trifecta directly goes into the idea of being in love, but also having a heavy self-doubt, and even self hatred? Lyrics saying things like "Soon you'll love me", "The murder of me", and primarily "I'm the biggest you've ever seen, biggest mess you'll ever know". The end of the song is a long stretch of a guitar note and two different vocal recordings: One of the singer doing the light delicate long singing, and one of the singer screaming things like "Where did you go!? What did you want from me! No!", both vocals feeling very heartfelt. 8th Grade Crush goes straight into the idea of seeing your 8th grade crush, now in high school, with one side being ashamed, and the other still hopelessly in love. Like the girl is avoiding the boy, but the boy is still in love. Lyrics that go with this 'hopelessly in love' theme include "I've fallen in love all over again. I'm grown, so grown.", and "Love you like a lover so I see you like others", while the ones that show the girl avoiding the boy include "Girl, I know I'm in your sight", and "Lowered head, down the hall".
Update/Addition, I've also recently come into liking of track Ujahn. Ujahn is the longest track on the album ,nearing 8 minutes, and is entirely piano, and its so good. Its a very good piano song, calming and relaxing, sad but also uplifting and hopeful. And after a desolate quiet bridge they begin to thunder on the keys in an very dramatic and emotion gaging segment. In conclusion, Ujahn is odd as its a full piano composition in the middle of this hard rock album, but it is very good, and its over all feel, dancing around with the sad depressive mood, with a bit of a hopeful aspect, it fits well with the album.
Favorite track: tie between ''8th Grade Crush' and 'Ujahn' (yes, Ujahn, really) Least favorite track: Rachet
