Thyreos was founded in 2001, in small town Degerfors, Sweden. The studio produced demo Words Of Evil was recorded six years later. It contains two songs: Words Of Evil and Me And Myself. This was the first time the band worked with producer Ronny Milianowicz at Studio Seven. Both songs on the demo were re-recorded and released on the band’s debut album Sound Of Destruction.

Sound Of Destruction came out in 2009. Two years later, the band signed a deal with Sliptrick Records for a world wide release. A video was shot for the title track, directed by Thomas Tjäder. The album was produced by Ronny Milianowicz and mastered by Jens Bogren.

Thyreos went from a quintet to a quartet the year after the release of SOD. During this time, the band consisted of Fredrik Nordin (vocals and bass), Erik Palmqvist (keyboard), Henrik Johansson (drums) and Daniel Birath (guitar).

This is the second album from Swedish outfit Thyreos, and are yet another in the power metal vein from that country. What makes them different to most is that they have a harder edge both musically and vocally. Although Fredrik Norden has a strong range (as would be expected within this genre) it is the additional angst and passion in his vocals that assist in taking this to a quite different level. Fans of the genre will point to Edguy and Angra as influences, and the result is something that is surely going to create the band a lot of fans. I am somewhat surprised that I hadn’t come across this band previously, but possibly that is down to being on a somewhat small label but now that they have signed a publishing contract with Pure Steel they will get more publicity as on the basis of this it is richly deserved.

As it so rightly says in the press release, this album “features 12 very diverse songs, which have influences from Hard Rock to more harder styles. Sometimes they sound dreamy and lyrical, sometimes very hard rocking! This album is definitely a very promising and fascinating mixture, which will please lots of different fans.” If you enjoy your metal melodic, are partial to keyboards and plenty of riffing guitars while also refusing to stick solidly within one genre then this may well be for you. www.thyreos.se
