"Call of the Wild" is the debut full-length studio album by Danish hard rock act Disneyland After Dark (now D-A-D). The album was released through Mega Records in February 1986. It´s the successor to the May 1985 "Standin' on the Never Never" EP. "Marlboro Man" from the EP was re-recorded an included on "Call of the Wild", while the EP version of "Never Never (Indian Love)", would be included as a CD bonus track. Other than that the remaining tracks on the 11 tracks (12 if you count the CD bonus track), 41:44 minutes long album are all new original compositions.

Stylistically Disneyland After Dark write some nice hard rocking tunes, which are both memorable and varied. Cowpunk/blues/bluegrass/country combined with rock/hard rock riffs (and even some 80s synths on "Jackie O'"), twangy leads, and lyrics about cowboys and the old West (sometimes very silly lyrics like on "Riding With Sue" and "Counting the Cattle"). Lead vocalist/guitarist Jesper Binzer both sings using his normal singing voice but also introduces his more raw hard rock singing style on some songs, and he is generally a great singer with a strong and personal voice and delivery.

"Call of the Wild" features a decent sounding production job, and it´s overall a good quality debut release from Disneyland After Dark. It´s not a perfect release, but it´s quite charming, and it´s the charm and innocense of it all which carries the album through. The inconsitency of the material makes it hard to know what it is Disneyland After Dark actually wants and where they are headed, but when that is said, all tracks on the album are worth a listen. A 3 star (60%) rating is warranted.
