Sarcofago's INRI is, of course, a major influence on the second wave of black metal - perhaps a big as influence as Mayhem's Deathcrush which came out at around the same time, since it is regularly cited as an inspiration by key figures in the Norwegian black metal scene. For my part, however, I don't think it has aged as well as that first Mayhem EP. The extreme subject matter, buzzsaw guitars and frantic drumming are all present, but this time around the low-budget production values detract from the music rather than adding to it (as is sometimes possible with black metal); specifically, the band sound rather muffled and subdued, which rather takes the edge off things. An interesting listen, and decent enough, but not something I see myself revisiting regularly.
