"Chrono.naut" is an EP release by UK doom metal act Electric Wizard. The EP was released through Man's Ruin Records in March 1997. Later that same year the two tracks from this EP were merged into one long track and featured on a split with UK stoner metal act Orange Goblin.
The first track on the EP is in the rather aggressive and über distorted doom metal style that the band initiated on "Come My Fanatics... (1997)", which was released just a few months prior to "Chrono.naut". The second track is more laid back and stoned jamming. Despite of how different the two tracks sound they could both well have been recorded at the same sessions as the material from "Come My Fanatics... (1997)".
The sound production is organic and suit the music well, the musicianship is strong and both tracks are entertaining albeit in different ways. "Chrono.naut" is overall a quality release by Electric Wizard, but I´d recommend getting the split with Orange Goblin instead of this EP. Both because I find the one track version of the song better and because the Orange Goblin tracks on the split are well worth your time and money too. This EP deserves a 3.5 star (70%) rating.
